Japanese Ivory Noh Masks or Thousand Faces Walking Stick (c.1900)

Japanese ivory pommel handle. Profusely carved with grotesque and stylised 'Noh Masks' or  'Thousand Faces'. Mounted on ebonised shaft with white metal collar ( not currently tested for silver)

Base of cane finished with  metal ferrule.

Condition

The carving is in lovely condition for age with appropriate wear,patina and expansion lines for age. Collar in good condition free from cracks or breaks-not currently tested for silver and no Assay /makers marks present.

Cork wood walking stick (c.1910)

This is stick that will add something different to a collection.

Beautifully knobbly and gnarled down the shaft of the cane.  The upper shaft, pommel and base ferrule area carved clear.

 

Condition

Nobles all appear to be in place. Minor expansion cracks on pommel. Otherwise in excellent condition for age

Superb chunky Chinese silver pommel on full length high ridge Malacca cane with original base metal ferrule.

Inscription W.S on the top of the pommel.

This is a superb one piece 19th Century folk art cane.

The hardwood pommel carved as a bearded man with feathered turban.The shaft of the cane holding carving of squares and lozenges.

Base of cane holding a small ring collar ferrule.

Victorian ivory carved hand and snake handle with pierced name for Mr W.Kirby. The study mounted on the exotic wood Coromandel. The base of the cane finished with base bone ferrule.

Victorian Specimen Wood Cane with Carved Ivory Handle with Shield Shaped Cartouche (c.1880 )

A lovely example of slim specimen wood cane on internal metal rod. The ivory carved pommel holding a shield shaped cartouche. The cane finished with a brass based metal ferrule.

Condition

The length of the cane is in beautiful condition without missing wood samples, breaks or cracks. The ivory does hold a few expansion lines and little nibble of ivory from the lower base collar.

A good quality Victorian folk cane carved into a monkey head with glass eyes. Carved from a one piece length of ash and finished with glass eyes and base metal ferrule.

Superb Victorian folk cane.Beautiful patina throughout the length of the cane. Age related expansion line over the nose and upper lip of the cane.

Victorian Rustic Folk Cane Grotesque Man & Owl c.1890

A really unusual rustic folk cane. The owl feature enhanced with two glass eyes, while  the length of the  handle showing the features of a grotesque man. 

The study mounted on a briar shaft with white metal collar and original base metal ferrule.

Condition

Some age expansion lines along the length of the shaft. Base ferrule pinned and a little rattly. The handle of the cane showing slight movement.

19th Century Ivory Carving on Bamboo c.1900

A very  comical study in ivory of a bowing gentleman with metal collar. The study is mounted on slim line  bamboo with original base metal ferrule.

Condition

Good original condition with appropriate wear for age.Free from breaks or cracks, few little tufts a little mis, on the animal fur around the head rim.

Good quality, strong  black horn pommel on black horn shaft. The cane finished with deep brass collar.

Carved Study of a Dog on Rosewood Birmingham 1904

Character study of a barking dog. Carved in hardwood with what appears to be bone teeth. Mounted on rosewood shaft  with original base metal ferrule.

Upper collar not holding Assay but lower collar holds Assay for Birmingham 1904.

Condition.

Good original condition free from breaks or cracks. Eyes likely to be a later addition.

A superb example of a cane formed from horn. The axe shaped handle mounted on a horn shaft. The shaft finished with a deep copper collar and base brass with metal ferrule.
